Target Arts and Wonder Free Family Day

Part of Walker Open Field

During the third weekend of July, more than 80 institutions in 30 cities across the country will participate in this free family event. Thanks to Target, Walker visitors receive free gallery admission and can take part in a variety of free activities.

Family Art School, 1–4 pm

Take crash courses in drawing, sculpture, art history, dance, and experimental music at stations throughout Open Field before earning your family art degree.

Camera Tag, 4–6 pm

Local artist Ben Garthus leads a high-tech version of tag in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden using digital cameras to challenge both your speed and stealth.

Performance: Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles, 6 pm

This six-piece acoustic explosion combines folk and jazz with touches of Gypsy, polka, country, and punk. Join us in the Open Field for a special all-ages concert.

Target Arts & Wonder Free Family Event is part of the Target commitment to arts and education. Since 1946, the company has given five percent of its income to support education, the arts, social services, and volunteerism. Today, that adds up to more than $3 million per week.

Major support for Open Field is generously provided by Margaret and Angus Wurtele.
