This culmination of a 10-day artist residency introduces Story/Time, a Walker-commissioned piece that premieres in February 2012. Jones commands the stage with 90 one-minute stories, and the work’s formal structure employs chance operations in the layering of choreography, music, and lighting à la systems developed by John Cage and Merce Cunningham. Followed by a Q&A with Jones.
Story/Time was co-commissioned by Peak Performances @ Montclair State University and the Walker Art Center with support provided by the William and Nadine McGuire Commissioning Fund, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the National Dance Project of the New England Foundation for the Arts. The work was developed in residence at Arizona State University Gammage Auditorium, Bard College, Alexander Kasser Theater at Montclair State University, University of Virginia, and the Walker Art Center.
