Introduced by director Walter Salles, with a post-screening Q & A
Walker members are invited to a special sneak preview of On the Road with director Walter Salles in the Walker Cinema.
Five years in the making, Salles’ adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s iconic freewheeling road novel takes to the screen with an impeccable sense of vintage Americana and beat spontaneity. Aspiring New York writer Sal Paradise meets Dean Moriarty, a devastatingly charming ex-con married to the very liberated and seductive Marylou. Determined not to get locked into a constricted life, they cut their ties and take to the road. Thirsting for freedom, the three young people head off in search of the world, other encounters, and themselves. With Garrett Hedlund as Dean, Sam Riley as Sal, and Kristen Stewart as Marylou, the cast’s stellar lineup also includes Amy Adams, Steve Buscemi, Kirsten Dunst, Terrence Howard, and Viggo Mortensen. 2012, 35mm, 124 minutes.
Brazilian filmmaker Salles is best known for the Oscar-nominated Central Station (1998) and his adaptation of The Motorcycle Diaries (2004). In 1999, Salles guest-curated the Walker’s Cinema Novo and Beyond film series. His new feature On the Road premiered at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival and also played in the Toronto International Film festival in September.
Presented in association with IFC Films and Allied Integrated Market.
On the Road opens at the Uptown Theater on January 18, 2013.
