Into Thin Air with Blames and Flames

Directed by Mohammadreza Farzad

Part of Cinema of Urgency

Two shorts connect film and the Islamic Revolution. Into Thin Air (2010, video, 26 minutes) deconstructs rare footage of 1978’s “Black Friday” massacre, when soldiers opened fire on Tehranians unaware of a curfew. Blames and Flames (2011, video, 28 minutes) considers the burning of more than 130 cinemas the same year, as audiences take to the streets, organize as citizens, and turn their cameras on each other.

The screening is introduced by Sara Saljoughi, PhD candidate, University of Minnesota.
