Internet Cat Video Festival 2013

Last year’s first-ever Internet Cat Video Festival was conceived at the Walker as a modest celebration to bring online communities together in the real world. The #catvidfest became its own viral phenomenon, drawing a crowd of more than 10,000 fans to the Walker’s Open Field. The event caught the attention of local, national, and international audiences and media and spawned “copy-cat” festivals—and a touring program—around the country.

For its second edition, the Internet Cat Video Festival 2013 screens at the Great Minnesota Get-Together: the State Fair Grandstand. Bringing along the same spirit of community and collaboration, this year’s showcase of feline hijinks includes music, special guests, community art projects, and booths hosting local animal resource nonprofits. Bonus: #catvidfest 2013 concludes with fireworks!

Watch for updates and details as summer approaches, and follow #catvidfest on Facebook and Twitter.

Nominations

Check your bookmarks, ask your friends, and put in some quality time for online “research”—then share your favorite Internet cat clips. Unveil a new talent or nominate an old favorite and help shape the 2013 lineup. Nominate a Minnesota feline for a chance to be featured in the festival. Eligible entries must be publicly available on YouTube or Vimeo.

The 2013 nomination form is now online. Deadline: May 1, 2013.

The Golden Kitty and MN Cat-on-a-Stick

Which video will walk away with the #catvidfest hardware? Last year, Will Braden’s now iconic Henri Le Chat Noir #2 took the coveted Golden Kitty as the People’s Choice Best of Festival.

The top award for 2013 will be decided via online voting this summer—along with new prizes for each cat-egory, including MN Cat-on-a-Stick for kitties residing in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

Braden will return to present the Golden Kitty to this year’s winner and to debut a new Henri video exclusively for the festival.
