In the second of three films capturing the landscape of California, Minimalist filmmaker James Benning frames 35 carefully crafted shots, each lasting 2.5 minutes, of urban Los Angeles’ desert border. Viewers can immerse themselves in everyday locales—from streets lined with tract houses to parking lots nearly devoid of people. 2000, color, 16mm transferred to video, 90 minutes.
