Close out the summer season with daylong garden adventures at Free First Saturday! Run and jump on an interactive tour, make drawings on the go, try plein air painting, and more. Activities are held in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. In the event of rain, some programs will move inside the Walker Art Center.
Enjoy free gallery admission and family fun for all on the first Saturday of each month. Activities designed for kids ages 6 to 12 are offered from 10 am to 3 pm.
Art Activity: Instant Books, 10 am–3 pm
Make a sketchbook and record what you observe in the Garden using your new artist’s journal.
Act Activity: Walker Paint Out, 10 am–3 pm
Grab supplies and join local artists for a day of plein air painting in and around the sculptures. Activity: Stereo Trees, 10 am–2:30 pm
Be surprised and delighted as you are transported to new worlds using 3-D viewfinders designed by artist Areca Roe.
Activity: Go, Garden, Go!, 11 am–1 pm
Let’s get moving! Find local dancers stationed in the Garden and play movement games about balance, mimicking, and freezing.
Performance: ART! BEATS! BREAKS!, 10 am–3 pm
Listen and dance to family friendly and funky music sets by DJ Los Boogie and DJ Damien Espada.
