Gallery admission is free for everyone on the first Saturday of each month from 10 am to 6 pm, with a variety of family activities scheduled from 10 am to 3 pm.
Join us as we celebrate the grand reopening of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden with music, art-making, and more. Take a tour to learn about the changes and find some old favorites.
Art-Making: Mix Up, 10 am–3 pm
Design a new image of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. Create a one-of-a-kind drawing with crayons by mixing and matching metal stencils with artist Carolyn Swiszsz.
Activity: Extrapolation Factory, 10 am–6 pm
Learn about the natural habitats in the Garden and discover how you can help protect those spaces. Extrapolation Factory’s project creates an experimental habitat that will be deployed around the Walker campus.
Performance: Black Market Brass, 10:30 am and 12:30 pm
Get out on the dance floor! The band Black Market Brass, a local favorite, sizzles with an eclectic blend of cool, deep funk and driving Afrobeat grooves.
Performance: Merce Cunningham’s Field Dances, 11:30 am, 1:30 and 4:30 pm
Two former Merce Cunningham Dance Company dancers reconstruct Field Dances (1963), subtitled Dances for Everyone, in a participatory performance featuring local dancers and community members.
Walker tour guides will be in the Garden throughout the day to share stories with visitors about the artwork.
