Michelle Grabner

Known for her silverpoint-inscribed black gesso tondos, or circle paintings (on view in A Shot in the Dark), Michelle Grabner’s meditative works can be seen as re-readings of the abstractionists’ grid. In this talk Grabner discusses the methods and meanings behind her studio practice as well as her recent book, The Studio Reader (co-edited with Mary Jane Jacob, University of Chicago Press, 2010), an anthology that examines the evolving role of the studio as a site for artistic production.
