Known for performances, videos, music, and songs that show an intense commitment to the open-ended potential of language, Angolan artist Nástio Mosquito presents the final event of the opening weekend for the Walker’s exhibition 9 Artists.
Mosquito’s work mines various pop culture clichés, including self-help advice, motivational speaking, and music videos. Working under a range of names—Saco, Nasty-O, Cucumber Slice, and Zura Zuara—the artist often adopts the role of postcolonial respondent, while mocking the idea of any such imposed position. Combining spoken word and video, his energized and provocative performance responds to, among other things, a series of questions posed by exhibition curator Bartholomew Ryan. Produced in partnership with Obsidian Arts. Made in collaboration with Vic Pereiró.
