Steve Dietz
Steve Dietz is the founding Director of New Media Initiatives at the Walker Art Center. He is responsible for the Walker's digital outreach and interpretive activities, including Walker Art Center's web site; the Integrated Arts Information Access project (IAIA); ArtsNet Minnesota; and Gallery 9, a virtual gallery for commissioning interactive and web-centric art. Dietz is also the principal of YProductions, which consults with cultural heritage organizations on strategic and efficient implementations of their missions for a digital, networked environment. Clients have included The National Gallery of Art, Smithsonian's National Museum of American Art, The Consortium for the Computer Interchange of Museum Information, Consortium for the Computer Interchange of Museum Information, Ovation TV, and The Minnesota Historical Society. Dietz was formerly the head of publications and founded new media initiatives at the National Museum of American Art, where he established one of the most extensive and award-winning museum Web sites on the Internet, co-produced the CD-ROM National Museum of American Art, which won the 1997 first prize in Arts and Culture at the international MILIA festival, and edited the scholarly journal American Art. Dietz is currently on the Board of the Museum Computer Network and a local non-profit photography gallery, pARTs. Dietz has spoken widely at conferences and symposia on issues of digital publishing and imaging and the future of the museum.
