Big Changes on the Walker Art Center/Minneapolis Sculpture Garden Campus
Sculptures are being moved. Construction fencing is going up. And big changes are afoot. We’ve begun renovation of the Walker Art Center/Minneapolis Sculpture Garden campus, an ambitious project that will bring a unified, one-campus feel to this 19-acre expanse of urban green space. To get updates on the campus’ transformation, visit the walkerart.org/campus.
As a result of changes in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, only Walker Art Center gallery tours will be on offer until Summer 2017. For more information about tours and education excursions, please call 612.375.7609.
The Walker Art Center connects the ideas and artwork of today’s artists to contemporary classroom curricula through thematic school tours and hands-on art lab activities. Guided school tours for pre-kindergarten through grade 12 focus on the Walker’s collection, special exhibitions, museum architecture, or the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. Tours for all levels are tailored to the needs of individual groups and generally last 45 minutes to one hour.
An array of tour topics and themes are offered. Download the tour topics list for details.
Looking for ways to spark creativity? Try an artist-led, hands-on activity in the Star Tribune Foundation Art Lab. Students roll up their sleeves and experiment with media, techniques, and concepts of contemporary art in projects linked to their gallery experience.
Writing through Art tours use contemporary art as a catalyst for student writing, including descriptive writing, critical essays, stories and narratives, and poetry. Select one type of writing or schedule multiple visits to experience all four.
