Introducing… Patrick, Kelly, and Penelope Deignan

What do you like to do when you visit the Walker?

Patrick Deignan

We always stop to see the movie playing in front of the white steps and visit the gift shop. Whatever we do between those two points varies.

Hang out and walk around.

Penelope Deignan

I like to look at my favorite artwork. I bring my colored pencils and paper and sketch. And I loved the Tool Shed at Open Field.

What do you enjoy most about the Walker?

The variety and accessibility. I never feel like the artists are out of reach.

The people and the openness.

My favorite artwork is the big gold CNN necklace.

What are your favorite Walker memories?

Seeing Archie Shepp, the Gordon Parks Regis Dialogue, and speaking with Fab 5 Freddy on the patio while PB Wolf spun “Yum, Yum (Eat ’Em Up)” by the Beat Box Boys.

Summer outside—meeting friends, seeing music, and enjoying whatever artists were there.

Arty Pants when I was little, and then Open Field.

What are some events that your whole family has enjoyed together?

The dog opera Tragedy on the Sea Nymph, which we enjoyed with our late hound dog, the Rolu Open Field Residency, and Laurie Anderson at the Raising Creative Kids program.

We are excited about our two artist-designed mini-golf courses this summer. If you could design a hole, what would it include and look like?

The old Block E. I’ve heard it was wonderful.

Something with an ocean that fills with water, and when you golf in it, that’s it.

Which of the mini-golf holes are you most excited to play?

Penelope and I like the maze. Does it have a Minotaur?

The French chateau sounds cool.

Why is your Walker membership important to you?

It’s important to support the arts and share that with our daughter.

Each person in our family gets something out of it.

Because it’s really special.
