Expect the Unexpected at Open Field

As a Minnesota-based foundation dedicated to helping build healthier communities, United Health Foundation joins the Walker Art Center as sponsor of the 2014 edition of Open Field. The summerlong celebration on the Walker’s green features the return of such popular programs as Drawing Club, Acoustic Campfire, and the Internet Cat Video Festival as well as new elements such as an information hub with games and activities for enjoying the space. “Open Field invites visitors to engage with their environment and each other in dynamic ways,” says Sarah Schultz, the Walker’s curator of public practice. “We are excited to have United Health Foundation support this project, which brings together creativity and recreation to produce unexpected social interaction.”

Established by UnitedHealth Group in 1999 as a not-for-profit, private foundation, United Health Foundation works to improve the nation’s health and well-being and is committed to supporting programs and initiatives that touch the lives of families, neighborhoods, and communities across the nation and around the globe. Its partnership with Open Field—which features events such as dance parties, yoga classes, art workshops, and sing-alongs—reflects this approach. “United Health Foundation strongly believes in the importance of community in promoting healthy lifestyles,” says Ellen Wilson, a Walker trustee and executive vice president of human capital at UnitedHealth Group. “Open Field encourages people to get outside and experience their environment in new, collaborative, and inventive ways. We are delighted to help the Walker present this program free of charge for participants of all ages.”
