With free gallery admission and artist designed adventures from 10 am to 3 pm for kids ages 6–12, the first Saturday of each month is a family-friendly-free-for-all on Open Field. Check out the Tool Shed with tons of stuff to make your own fun, or set the kids free in the Walker’s big green backyard while parents enjoy food and drink at the Garden Grill by D’Amico on the outdoor patio.
Walker Garden Quest
Is there a troll under that bridge? A gnome lurking among the trees? In August, LARPing (live action role-playing) transforms the Walker into a land of mythical heroes and foes!
Join us on a quest through the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. Make a costume, grab a map, and encounter a cast of characters—a ferryman, a siren (who might try to lure you), a pixie, a fortune teller, a hermit, and many others.
Haggle with a shopkeeper in the marketplace, wield a sword at the battle school, cast spells with a witch, and liberate friends and revelers captured by the troll during this day of epic outdoor adventures.
Gallery admission is free for everyone on the first Saturday of each month from 10 am to 5 pm, with a variety of family activities scheduled from 10 am to 3 pm.
Performance: Tom Thumb the Great by Music:Baroque
Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, 11 am and 1 pm
Stop by for a fantastic show about giants, kings, and a princess who falls in love with our hero—a teeny fellow the size of a thumb. Be on the lookout for a special appearance by Merlin. Laugh, sing, and maybe even play a part yourself while you discover how much fun baroque music can be!
