Target Free Thursday Nights
Thursdays 5–9 pm

Each week on Target Free Thursday Nights, the Walker Art Center welcomes you to enjoy free gallery admission and programs from 5–9 pm. Thanks to Target, you can enjoy an exhibition, take in a lecture, watch a film, make art, and ask questions. During Open Field, Thursday nights are a soiree of the unexpected, a mash-up of experiences, a chance to interact and explore the Walker inside and out.

Featured Target Free Thursday Nights:

80’s Night in the Field
Thursday, August 9, 6–10 pm
Wear your neon, shoulder pads, and stirrup pants for an evening that looks back on an oft-maligned decade. Start the night with a special ‘80s-themed edition of Conversationalist’s Café (6–8 pm) a project where strangers, friends, and guest artists share dialogue based on a menu of topics crafted around the era. Then check out the exhibition This Will Have Been: Art, Love & Politics in the 1980s, during a curator-led tour (7–8 pm), and stick around as Jim Walsh (author of The Replacements: All Over But the Shouting: An Oral History) rounds up fellow musicians and artists who lived through this special time for a round of stories and songs with the Mad Ripple Hootenanny that harks back to a decade when CDs were the next big thing (8–10 pm).

Silverwood Park at Open Field
Thursday, August 16
Join Silverwood and other Three Rivers programmers at the Walker Art Center and Minneapolis Sculpture Garden for an afternoon and evening of creative park programs in a new space! Go on a cell phone photography hike with a naturalist, compete in the Clay Olympics, try your hand at Drawing Club: Dead or Alive or hang out with some special guests from the animal kingdom!  Three Rivers Park District and The Walker Art Center invite YOU to bring your curious, creative self forward.

Harvest Party
Thursday, August 30, 5–9 pm
Kick off the last outdoor Target Free Thursday Night of the season with a final Drawing Club session (4–8 pm), a cake-cutting ceremony (7 pm), an Internet Cat Video Film Festival, and the Acoustic Campfire closer with Brian Laidlaw and the Family Trade at 8 pm.
