It’s time to cast your vote in the most important People’s Choice competition of the entire year. The coveted Golden Kitty Award for the internet’s best cat video is now on the line. You may know its short but storied history: During the first Internet Cat Video Festival, Will Braden’s Henri 2: Paw de Deux took home the Golden Kitty statuette. Last year, Grumpy Cat was awarded the top prize for her work in The Original Grumpy Cat. Who will it be this year? After a year of watching hundreds of cat videos, reviewing your nominations, and considering the invaluable feedback of our panel of jurors, we present the five nominees for the 2014 Internet Cat Video Festival People’s Choice Award (in alphabetical order):

GOLDEN KITTY VOTING
How to vote: How to vote: There are two ways to vote for your choice for the Golden Kitty. Go to the Walker’s Internet Cat Video Festival homepage and click “Vote,” OR use Twitter! Follow @CatVidFest and use hashtag #goldenkittyaward, plus the name of the video to cast your vote! Try it!
Example: I vote for Henri 2: Paw de Deux #goldenkittyaward #catvidfest
(Obviously, Henri is not up for the award again this year.)
Voting closes on July 18 at midnight. The winners will be revealed at the 2014 Internet Cat Video Festival on Thursday, August 14. And remember, just because you may not see your favorite video on this list, doesn’t mean that it’s not in the reel or we don’t have something special planned for it. Until then, watch, deliberate, and vote!
ABOUT THE INTERNET CAT VIDEO FESTIVAL
In August 2012, the Walker Art Center planned a small experiment as part of its outdoor summer programming on Open Field, the greenspace adjacent to the building. What if there was an evening program dedicated to the internet phenomenon of cat videos? Would anyone come to watch videos what they could easily view with a few clicks at home or work? How would this solo hobby translate to a public setting? Word of the program quickly spread internationally via social media and the press including coverage as varied as the New York Times, the BBC, Japanese television, Australian talk shows, Brazilian newspapers, CNN, NPR, the Wall Street Journal, Cat Fancy, Slate, Time, CHEEZburger, and many more. The result was 10,000 people gathered on Open Field enjoying the first Internet Cat Video Festival—together. The overwhelming success of the event has led to tours of the program and last summer the Walker presented the second installment of the Festival to an even larger crowd at the Minnesota State Fair. Now, the Walker brings the Festival back as a free community event at Open Field on Thursday, August 14, 2014.
This year’s Internet Cat Video Festival will be programmed by cat video producer Will Braden, creator of the Henri le Chat Noir videos. Braden has hosted several Festival tour events and received the Festival’s first Golden Kitty (people’s choice) Award.
Information about video submissions and event details will be announced next month.

The People Have Spoken
Chosen by online voting of nearly 20,000 responses, the 2013 Golden Kitty—the festival’s people’s choice award—went to The Original Grumpy Cat. Presented by the Walker’s Scott Stulen and last year’s winner, Will Braden, the prize was received by Grumpy Cat’s humans, the Bundesen family. Commenting on the honor, Grumpy Cat shrugged: “Whatever.” Watch the 2013 festival playlist here.
