Summer Music & Movies

The Walker’s beloved summer favorite returns for its 31st season of sizzling music and classic films under the stars. Grab a blanket and join us for the best free gig in town—six Mondays of music by local luminaries and international sensations. This year’s program features exclusive Minneapolis performances by Andy Palacio and the Garifuna Collective from Belize and Metronomy from London. Local notables spin records from their private collections between the bands and films. The lush 1950s Hollywood films of director Douglas Sirk document the public’s growing discontent with the social conventions of the time. He was drawn to stories in which the characters struggle to claim their right to live as they’d like, often flying in the face of disapproving, nosy neighbors, friends, and family. Sirk illustrated the strength it takes to rise above the harpies who blindly enforce society’s empty morality.

All films directed by Douglas Sirk. In case of rain, events are canceled unless otherwise noted. A variety of picnic favorites are available for purchase from Lunds during the festival.
