PERFORMANCES

Kari Faux

Kari Faux is an American rapper/singer from Little Rock, Arkansas; she is best known for her flamboyant dress, and conversational style of rap. Her songs are most commonly characterized as “internet rap;” with repetitive hooks, minimal production, and an emphasis on clever wordplay. Being a product of the new age internet rap, her subject matter usually boasts her unique style and social status making her popular among social media. In 2014, Faux released her mixtape, Laugh Now, Die Later, which had been received well from critics, landing a spot on Pitchfork’s “Most Overlooked Mixtapes of 2014. The EP would most notably gain the attention of rapper Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino. Glover remixed Faux’s “No Small Talk,” and featured it on his own mixtape, “STN MTN.” Kari Faux moved to Los Angeles, California; where she recorded and released her debut album “Lost En Los Angeles”. HBO’s hit show, Insecure, features a bulk of Kari’s music throughout the show’s first two seasons. In September 2017, Kari released her 7 track EP titled ‘Primary’ which features production from Matt Martians of ‘The Internet’ and Jerry Paper. Kari is now gearing up to release her second album sometime in 2018.

Walker Art Center Teen Arts Council (WACTAC) History
For more than 20 years, the Walker Art Center has been a leader in innovative youth programming, providing cultural institutions around the world with a successful model for engaging teens and young adults. At the center of this model is the Walker Art Center Teen Arts Council (WACTAC), a diverse group of 13 young artists and art enthusiasts who ensure that events for teens are part of the Walker’s overall program throughout the year. Meeting weekly after school, WACTAC members identify opportunities in the Walker’s exhibition schedule for teens to connect with contemporary art and artists. They also design their own creative projects to augment the institution’s offerings. In the past, WACTAC has developed exhibitions and events to showcase teen artists, invited resident artists to give talks and lead classes, developed marketing materials and strategies, written and published original work for print and online, planned regional film festivals, and partnered with local groups to present programs throughout Minneapolis and St. Paul. Teen programs bring a special vitality to the Walker, and these experiences have helped alumni attain scholarships and audiences for their work, secure curatorial and educational positions, and use their organizational and arts advocacy skills in their colleges and home communities.
