Powerful portraits abound at the Walker Art Center’s Free First Saturday event

, from 10 am–3 pm Saturday, April 4. Inspired by the exhibition Live Forever: Elizabeth Peyton, a survey of paintings that includes the artist’s friends and personal heroes from the worlds of art, music, fashion, and politics, the day’s events include an art-making activity creating profiles in paint; a four-part portrait-making activity all about you; a story reading of Karen Beaumont’s book I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More!; a screening of short films starring daring young girls and a vain warthog; a family photo opportunity; a gallery adventure to learn more about the paintings of Elizabeth Peyton; and a one-person performance by David Harris, who dreams about what he wants to be when he grows up.
Activities are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis from 10 am–3 pm. Gallery admission is free from 10 am–5 pm on Free First Saturday.
Free First Saturdays are for Families!
