Conjure up a day of fun at the Walker Art Center’s Free First Saturday event
Magical Mysteries
, from 10 am–3 pm Saturday, May 2. Enchanting activities highlight the marvelous ways that artists featured in the exhibition The Quick and the Dead explore time and space through science, technology, and craft. The day’s events include a performance by magician G Sparks; an instrument-making activity and an experimental sound station for moving rocks across a magnetic field led by Los Angeles-based musicians/artists Sarah RaRa and Luke Fischbeck; a dance sampler by choreographers Nami Yamamoto, Nora Chipaumire, and luciana achugar, each of whom will be performing as part of New World Dance: New York, April 30–May 2, in the McGuire Theater; a story reading of Jon Agee’s book Nothing; short films to spark the imagination; and a gallery activity to explore The Quick and the Dead.
Activities are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis from 10 am–3 pm. Gallery admission is free from 10 am–5 pm on Free First Saturday.

Art-Making for the Entire Family: Skeletal Surprise, 10 am–3 pm
Star Tribune Foundation Art Lab
Look at x-rays of human hands and then draw your own boney digits on the outside of a glove to reveal the mystery of what lies beneath. Led by the Science Museum of Minnesota.
Art-Making for the Entire Family: Soundwaves, 10 am–3 pm
Cargill Lounge
Make a clatter with Los Angeles–based musicians/artists Sarah RaRa and Luke Fischbeck at this instrument-making workshop. At a nearby sound station, you can make various types of music through moving rocks across an electrical field.

Explore the exhibition The Quick and the Dead with a family activity sheet filled with a fun set of looking, drawing, and writing exercises. A tour guide will be in the galleries from 11 am–2 pm to answer questions about the artworks.
