The Walker Art Center presents: Jan Martens The Dog Days Are Over
This complex, mathematical, and ultimately ecstatic hour-long work features eight performers who surrender themselves to a single movement: the jump. Dutch choreographer Jan Martens’ conceptually rigorous and dynamically engaging The Dog Days Are Over has been captivating audiences across Europe since 2009. This astounding piece helps confirm Brussels’ continued position as a hothouse for compelling new dance.
The Dog Days Are Over will be presented on Friday, March 9, and Saturday, March 10, at 8pm, in the William and Nadine McGuire Theater.
As a special bonus, on Thursday, March 8, at 6:30 and 7:30pm, in the Cargill Lounge, Martens will present free showings of excerpts from his latest work, Rule of Three. A meditation on transformation, the piece features three performers who slowly merge to become one body with a clear voice. Part of Target Free Thursday Night.

ABOUT JAN MARTENS
Belgium-born choreographer Martens has been creating his own works since 2010, often focusing on the relationship between audience and performer. Martens’ first performance I Can Ride A Horse Whilst Juggling So Marry Me (2010) depicted a woman dominated by social networks in society. Other works include A Small Guide On How To Treat Your Lifetime Companion (2011), Sweat Baby Sweat (2011), and La Bete (2013). While creating his own works and performances, Martens also hosts guest performances for the Dance On Ensemble and coaches young artists. Martens won the prestigious, Dutch visual arts award, the Charlotte Kohler Prize in 2015 for his work.
