Walker Art Center Presents World Premiere of Walker-Commissioned SUPER VISION by The Builders Association/dbox
The Obie Award–winning performance company the Builders Association (Alladeen, copresented by the Walker Art Center and Guthrie Theater in 2003) and digital designers dbox reveal a society in which “dataveillance” goes beyond anything Orwell ever imagined in the world premiere of SUPER VISION. Dive into this fresh, funny, and often disturbing combination of cutting-edge computer-generated animation, new video techniques, electronic music, and live performance on Thursday–Saturday, October 13–15, at 8 pm, and Sunday, October 16, at 7 pm, in the Walker Art Center’s William and Nadine McGuire Theater.
SUPER VISION probes three absorbing, intertwining, and all too-close-to-home stories drawn from the datasphere that explore the dangerous minefield of lives reduced to data.
Celebrating its 10th Anniversary, The Builders Association is a New York-based performance and media company that exploits the richness of contemporary technologies to extend the boundaries of theater. Based on unusual collaborations and extensive periods of development, The Builders Association’s productions feature a seamless blend of text, sound, architecture, video, and stage performances that explore the impact of technology on human presence.
Under the artistic direction of Marianne Weems, the Builders have collaborated on eight large-scale theater projects, including Master Builder (1994), The White Album (1995), Imperial Motel (Faust) (1996), Jump Cut (Faust) (1997), Jet Lag (1998) with Diller + Scofidio, Xtravaganza (2000), Alladeen (2003) with motiroti and Avanti (2003).
Since 1998, the Builders Association has been one of the most active international touring experimental theater companies in America. Alladeen has been presented at venues including Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, the Singapore Arts Festival, the Barbican Centre, Romaeuropa Festival 2003, BAM 2003 Next Wave Festival, REDCAT, Los Angeles, the Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro de Bogotá 2004, the Melbourne International Arts Festival, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, among many others. The company has also presented two installations at the Clocktower Gallery and the STOREFRONT for Art and Architecture.
