Walker Summer Programs Transition Online Including Sound for Silents and a Multimedia Adaption of Faye Driscoll: Come On In

Since mid-March, the Walker has shifted from hosting in-person events to presenting a multitude of online programs and offerings. From virtual drawing workshops and online art tours to live social media artist talks and performances, the Walker aims to connect with audiences while providing solace and inspiration in these times.

These types of programs will continue to flow through the summer, some new and some redesigned to fit an online model. Some summer programs are postponed to summer 2021, such as mini golf on the terraces and Rock the Garden. Others will be reformatted to fit an online model while trying to maintain the program’s main elements and objectives, such as the Walker’s hillside commissioned music and silent film annual event Sound for Silents.

One unchanging summer pastime, is strolling through the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, which remains open to all every day from 6 am to 12 midnight.

Faye Driscoll: Come On In Online Experience
Exhibition online Tuesday, May 26
Walkerart.org

Faye Driscoll: Come On In opened on February 27 in the Walker’s Gallery 7, and was scheduled to be on view until June 14. However, the exhibition was only open for two weeks before the Walker, like so many other organizations across the United States, had to close due to the threat of COVID-19.

Even though we can’t gather in the galleries, we still wanted to share a glimpse into Come On In. So Faye Driscoll collaborated with the Walker’s web designer Jaś Stefanski on a new way to experience part of the exhibition online.

The resulting multimedia adaption draws from video and audio footage of the gallery installation, and features one of the original six audio tracks spoken by the artist herself. This online experience is not meant to replicate the gallery exhibition but rather is offered as a new way for viewers to access the shared journey of Come On In from the comfort of their homes.
