Meet Walker Members Colleen Carey and Pam Endean

Back to Reader

You’ve been members at the Walker for more than 20 years. How did you become involved with the Walker?

Pam has been an active member in the Twin Cities arts scene for over 40 years. She was drawn to the exhibitions and the film program, thanks to Sheryl Mousley. I moved to the Twin Cities a bit later and found myself interested in the contemporary works of art—everyone from Hannah Höch to Dyani White Hawk.

What do you enjoy most about visiting the Walker?

We love the clean, crisp spaces full of color and creativity. We especially enjoy the curator-led tours of the exhibitions as they always add to our experience of the work.

Is there an exhibition, artwork, or performance that has been especially meaningful to you?

We always enjoy the Sculpture Garden—Pam’s personal favorite sculpture is [Deborah Butterfield’s] Woodrow! The Keith Haring exhibition was amazing, and the recent Dyani White Hawk: Love Language exhibition was visually stimulating, thought-provoking, and inspirational.

How have the arts impacted your life? Has engaging with contemporary art influenced the way you see the world?

Art is a fundamental part of our life. Art and artists tell stories, give meaning to the past and the present, and help us see ourselves as part of something bigger. Wherever we are, home or away, we look to art to give us time to pause, to reflect, and to admire beauty and help us make sense of the world.

What does being a Walker member mean to you?

We believe the Walker is a critically important creative force in our community.
