Join us for this free family-fun day inspired by the combination of photography and movement.

Free First Saturday features free gallery admission on the first Saturday of every month. Gallery admission tickets are available in advance online and on-site, day-of at the Main Lobby desk. Free admission 10 am–5 pm; activities 10 am–3 pm.

Activity Information

A Storytime Sneak Peek: Snowman by Dack Virnig, 10:30 am and 1:30 pm
Join author Dack Virnig in the Walker Cinema for a special sneak peek of Snowman, a delightful new children’s book full of wonder and wintery fun. The author will share the story using American Sign Language (ASL), giving kids an early glimpse into Snowman’s charming world before the book is released.

Create Your Own Book with author Dack Virnig, 10 am–3 pm
This hands-on activity invites families to follow a pre-written story and create their own illustrations along the way. As the story unfolds, folks can draw what they imagine and become part of the storytelling fun.

Touch/Feel Mapping with Deaf Equity, 10 am–3 pm
Some DeafBlind people use touch to navigate their surroundings. Join Deaf Equity in an activity where you’ll feel items to learn more about them and identify what they are communicating.

Feel and See the Vibrations, 10 am–3 pm
Join Deaf Equity in an activity where you’ll get to feel and see sound! Visitors will make their own drawings based on their experience of the vibrations of sound.

Deaf Equity–led Tours of Christine Sun Kim: All Day All Night
Family Tour, 11:30 am
General Audiences, 1 pm
DeafBlind Tour, 2 pm
Join Deaf Equity for interactive discussion of artworks in the new exhibition Christine Sun Kim: All Day All Night. All tours will be led by Deaf and DeafBlind community members with voiced interpretation in English. Please email access@walkerart.org or call 612-375-7564 for additional accommodations. Meet at the Main Lobby desk five minutes before the tour starts.

Personal photography is permitted throughout the Walker and the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, but please turn off the flash when visiting the galleries.
