The Belgian formalist Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker — one of the world’s most celebrated choreographers — ignites the Walker stage with her ecstatic collaboration featuring rising Moroccan-Belgian star Radouan Mriziga. Together they breathe new life into one of classical music’s most iconic works, Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. While Mriziga and de Keersmaeker draw from very different movement vocabularies, the two artists share a keen interest in geometry, nature and humankind’s increasingly troubled relationship with the natural world.

Il Cimento dell’Armonia e dell’Inventione is a striking ode to nature that raises abstract yet urgent concerns for the growing climate crisis, asking the question, “Do we still have four seasons?” The performance showcases four idiosyncratic, dazzling male dancers against the backdrop of an exquisite recording of Vivaldi’s composition by virtuosic violinist and long-time Rosas collaborator Amandine Beyer and her ensemble Gli Incogniti. The work embraces the many associations and emotions Vivaldi’s masterpiece has long evoked, while offering a choreographic counterpoint to it. Two brilliant choreographers come together to create a euphoric dance-music connection for contemporary times.
