In Kansas, two eight-year-old Little League teammates experience sexual abuse that alters the course of their adolescent lives—and beyond. Years later, Neil (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a sex worker searching for connection with a cast of older male clients. Brian (Brady Corbet) has become more reclusive, struggling with dreams of what he believes was an alien encounter. When the two boys reunite in their hometown, they confront the suppressed memories that have haunted them for years. Released in 2004, Mysterious Skin became director Gregg Araki’s most significant commercial and critical success to date, celebrated as a triumph of New Queer Cinema.
