Radiant Material: A 16mm Workshop and Screening at MirrorLab

Join artist Leslie Thornton and scholar Alice Lovejoy for a photogram workshop exploring film’s relationship to the material and physical sciences. The workshop leaders will further contextualize photochemical film within the basic science of atomic technologies. The event is co-organized and facilitated by local artist and filmmaker Sam Hoolihan.
The workshop is limited to 10 participants. No prior 16mm or artistic experience necessary; however, participants should commit to attending the full workshop from 10 am to 4 pm.
Following the workshop, a public film screening curated by media historian Alice Lovejoy, highlights experimental films by artists including Sandra Lahire, Tomonari Nishikawa, and Emily Richardson that explore the aesthetic, political, environmental, and infrastructural dimensions of the nuclear world.
The screening begins at 7 pm. A conversation between Lovejoy and Leslie Thornton follows.
