Stories in the Stars: An Indigenous Planetarium Experience
Event Details
Tickets & Info
This winter, the Walker invites you to embrace the beauty of the night sky. In collaboration with the Bell Museum, join us for a special pop-up planetarium experience. Enjoy guided indoor stargazing and cosmic storytelling that showcase the wonder above us all. Cozy up at the Walker and let the dark of winter illuminate new curiosities.
This month, the Bell Museum brings the stars to the galleries with Living In Balance: Anishinaabe Star Knowledge: “All around Gichigaming (the Great Lakes), Anishinaabe star knowledge teaches us about anangoog (the stars), baamiskobidegin giizisong (the planets), aandakiiwinan (the seasons), and how to live mina-maadziwin (a good life).” Travel through the seasons and learn more about the earth-sky connection between the moon(s) and constellations. The 20-minute program is presented in both English and Ojibwe language.
Planetarium screenings will occur every half-hour, from 5–8 pm. Sign-up for the planetarium experience is available on-site, on a first-come, first-served basis, starting at 5 pm in the Cargill Lounge. No prior registration is available; Thursday night reservations are for gallery admission only. Capacity is 25 guests per session, with 5 of those spots prioritized for Indigenous visitors.
Some elements of the evening’s program, like telescope viewing, are weather dependent and may take place outdoors. Please dress accordingly. Enjoy complimentary hot cocoa and warming firepits all night on the Cardamom patio.
Gallery admission is free on Thursday nights, 5–9 pm. Save time and reserve your gallery admission tickets online! Please note: Individual events during Free Thursday Nights are first-come, first-served.
