The twentieth edition of Mizna’s Twin Cities Arab Film Fest closes with two special screenings co-presented with the Walker and a reception at 5 pm.

In 2001, Kamal Aljafari set out with a MiniDV camera on a trip to Gaza in search of a man he met while in prison during the first Palestinian Intifada. Aljafari did not immediately do anything with the footage, but rewatching the tapes two decades later, he realized it was a found object, a film already completed. It captures Aljafari and a local guide, Hasan, traversing the region in search of this former cell mate, recording fleeting moments of everyday life and fragments of a reality in Gaza’s streets and landscapes now irreversibly altered. With Hasan in Gaza transforms this forgotten footage into a cinematic reflection on memory, loss, and the passage of time, capturing a Gaza of the past and glimpsing lives that may never be found again. 2025, Germany/Palestine/France/Qatar, DCP, in Arabic with English subtitles, 106 min.

In 2026, Mizna celebrates the twentieth edition of their flagship program, the Twin Cities Arab Film Festival. It aligns with Mizna’s broader 2026 film programming—Looking Forward, Looking Back—which confronts the visual record of SWANA cinema, including the Twin Cities Arab Film Festival and demands radical new meanings from the archive. The organization also publishes a biannual print literary and art journal, Mizna, and a digital platform for literary and multidisciplinary work, Mizna Online. Mizna additionally offers readings, film series, performances, public art commissions, and community events that have featured more than 1,000 local and transnational writers, filmmakers, and artists.
