Join us to celebrate the reopening of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden with a daylong festival for all ages! Guided tours, food trucks, DJs, Blue Bunny Ice Cream, and Walker giveaways will be offered throughout the day.
Performance: Black Market Brass, 10:30 am and 12:30 pm
Get out on the dance floor! The band Black Market Brass, a local favorite, sizzles with an eclectic blend of cool, deep funk and driving Afrobeat grooves.
Performance: Merce Cunningham’s Field Dances, 11:30 am, 1:30 and 4:30 pm
As part of Walker’s landmark exhibition Merce Cunningham: Common Time, Field Dances will be presented in the Garden, offering a unique view of dance through a piece that can include any number of dancers, last any length of time, and be performed in any space. As a bookend to the Cunningham performance during the 1988 opening of the Garden, Field Dances truly creates “Dances for Everyone.” Want to get involved? Join a workshop and participate in the 1:30 and 4:30 pm sets.
Official Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony, 12 noon
Join the Walker and the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board for the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden’s official opening.
Activity: Extrapolation Factory, 10 am–6 pm
Learn about the natural habitats in the Garden and discover how you can help protect those spaces. Extrapolation Factory’s project creates an experimental habitat that will be deployed around the Walker campus.
Art-Making: Mix Up, 10 am–3 pm
Design a new image of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. Create a one-of-a-kind drawing with crayons by mixing and matching metal stencils with artist Carolyn Swiszsz.
Artist-Designed Mini Golf, 10 am–6 pm
Mini golf is back in the Garden with a few new surprises and challenges on the artist-designed course. Try your luck with the Minnesota-themed “Tale of Two Cities,” take an imaginary ride on the Twin Cities light rail, play your way through a colorful “Block Party,” and more.
