Walker Art Center Puts a Twist on Home Movies with Video Workshop for Kids and Adults

Families are invited to the Walker Art Center on Tuesday, April 21, 6–8 pm, for an evening of filmmaking fun and a workshop that lets kids craft video self-portraits. Artists from In Progress, a St. Paul-based media organization, will be on hand to help children unleash their budding acting and directing talents in a series of digital portraiture activities. Using Flip camcorders, parents become cinematographers as kids direct and star in their own videos. Participants will learn the basic vocabulary of editing and camera handling, then share their finished movies with others on MySpace or YouTube. Online safety and privacy issues will be addressed. Led by Kristine Sorensen, Kao Choua Vue, and Tiana LaPointe, the workshop is geared towards kids ages 10–14.

Tickets to the workshop are $10 per family ($5 Walker members). To purchase tickets or for more information, call 612.375.7600.
