Free First Saturday: Back in the Groove!

Shake, Shake, Shake, 10 am–3 pm
Create your own shaker using a paper cup and colorful decorations! Experiment with different ingredients to discover sounds you like best, then choose one or combine materials to create your own unique rhythm. Once your shaker is ready, shake it to the beat and make some music!

Dancing Leaves, 10 am–3 pm
Get creative and celebrate the emerging colors of autumn. Let’s get back in the groove, tracing leaves and making a colorful wand. If you’d like, draw a ladybug, a caterpillar, or something else to add another pop of color.

Scarf-tastic with AfroContlgbo, 10 am–3 pm
In this activity, you’ll learn about head scarves and paint a design that’s totally you. Pick your favorite colors, draw your favorite things, and have fun creating your very own scarf. You can also peek at our patterns for ideas.

Family Fun Resource Table, 10 am–3 pm
Borrow some toys to get your body moving. Grab a Scavenger Hunt to explore the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, and stop by for other giveaways (while supplies last).

Dance Party with DJ JEN-E, 10 am–12 noon; 1–3 pm
DJ JEN-E will keep the party hopping with upbeat music, dancing, and plenty of smiles for littles and families alike. Join us for a fun-filled fall day, where everyone can get back in the groove, make new memories, and celebrate the season together!

Performances by AfroContlgbo, 10:30 am and 1:30 pm
Experience high-energy, visually captivating performances that celebrate both traditional and contemporary African dance. Afrocontigbo brings vibrant rhythms, dynamic movement, and powerful storytelling to the stage. After the show, join an interactive session to learn basic dance movements—fun for all ages and experience levels.

Guided Tours of the Walker Galleries, 11:30 am (families); 1 pm (general audiences); 3 pm (in Spanish)
Join a Walker educator for a family-friendly, guided tour of artworks on view in the Walker galleries at 11:30 am (40 min.), take a guided tour for general audiences at 1 pm (60 min.), or join guided tour in Spanish at 3 pm (60 min). Tours explore a selection of artworks and include interactive discussion. Meet outside the Main Lobby five minutes before the tour starts.

Visitas guiadas a las Gallerias Walker, 3 pm (en español)
Acompaña a un educador del Walker en una visita guiada en español por las obras de arte en las gallerias Walker a las 3 pm (60 min.). Las visitas guiadas recorren una selección de obras de arte de las exposiciones actuales e incluyen charlas interactivas. La cita es en el mostrador del Main Lobby (Vestíbulo principal) cinco minutos antes de que comience la visita.

DJ JEN-E is a first-generation Vietnamese American multidisciplinary artist based in Minneapolis. Their presence in the local music scene started in 2023. The music they play incorporates elements of jazz, ambient, and different forms of electronic music. Their selections are improvisational and shift from celestial to vibrant, with ebbs and flows.

Afrocontigbo, founded by Korma Aguh-Stuckmayer, is a Minnesota-based West African dance and wellness company dedicated to preserving and sharing traditional and contemporary African dance forms. Rooted in the Igbo culture of Nigeria, their work blends movement, music, storytelling, and community engagement to uplift and celebrate African arts, culture, and heritage.
