What can we learn from the past? This playlist centers on moments of upheaval and protest in the US—the Vietnam War, the rise of the Black Panthers, the Hollywood blacklist—to see how filmmakers have used their work to extend and enact revolutionary change. Each of these documentary works has interjected a spirit of resistance into the national crises of their time, using different strategies of image and sound to amplify a call to action.
This program is presented in conjunction with the national arts initiative Fall of Freedom, taking place across the US on November 21 and 22.
