No Home Movie

Chantal Akerman explores her deep connection to her mother, Natalia, a subject prevalent in her previous films, video works, and interviews. This record of their long conversations in the final months before Natalia’s death in 2014 centered on her mother’s identity as an Auschwitz survivor and later as a parent raising a family in Brussels. Akerman beautifully mirrors her mother’s isolation in her careful framing of doorways and empty open rooms, as well as capturing the intense emotion the two felt for each other. The film premiered at the Toronto and New York film festivals. 2015, Belgium/France, in French and English with English subtitles, DCP, 115 minutes.
