“In my own films, I figure out the drama first; the fight choreography comes last.” —Corey Yuen

Three women are entangled in corporate espionage in this overlooked work of Hong Kong action cinema. Two sisters, played by Shu Qi and Zhao Wei, are hackers and assassins who take down targets with the help of their late father’s secret satellite technology. Their technological prowess and mastery of Kung Fu are challenged when a police inspector (Karen Mok) is tasked with tracking them down. Director Corey Yuen got his start in martial arts choreography, working with Bruce Lee in the 1970s and later Jet Li and Jason Statham. So Close showcases how Hong Kong action cinema of the 1980s and 90s provided a blueprint for Hollywood action films of the 2000s. 2002, Hong Kong, 35mm, 110 min.
