Meet Walker Members Susan Blaska Lindahl and Peter Lindahl

Why did you become Walker members?
We’ve shared a love of modern and contemporary art from early in our relationship, so becoming Walker members felt like a natural fit. The Walker is such an important institution in the Twin Cities, and joining the Collectors’ Council in 2019 introduced us to a wonderful community of fellow art lovers.

What made you decide to engage more deeply—co-chairing this year’s Avant Garden and, for Peter, becoming a Walker Trustee?
Susan has been involved with the Avant Garden committee for the past five years and has seen firsthand the energy and impact of the event. As our connection to the Walker has grown—as donors and as Avant Garden sponsors—getting more involved felt like a natural next step. It’s a chance to support an institution we genuinely care about.

How would you pitch the Walker to someone who wanted to get more involved?
The Walker is so much more than a museum—it’s a creative hub and a real cultural asset for the Twin Cities. We were reminded of that recently in Milan, when someone asked where we were from. When we said the Twin Cities, they immediately replied, “The spoon and the cherry!” That moment really stuck with us. The Walker’s reach and significance extend far beyond Minnesota, and getting involved is a wonderful way to support something truly special.

Do you have a favorite Walker memory?
A few come to mind. Taking our kids to the Sculpture Garden for the first time and watching them interact with the artwork was unforgettable. We also still talk about the Avant Garden gala when our shadows were projected onto Spoonbridge and Cherry—such a fun memory. And Susan celebrating her fortieth birthday at the Walker made an already special occasion even more memorable.
