Art Club: Variations on a Garland
Event Details
Tickets & Info
Each Thursday, get creative and experiment with new mediums and ideas at Art Club. Craft a winter garland inspired by Abbas Akhavan: Variations on a Garden. Akhavan’s work, often made from perishable materials, explores our relationships to the natural world, personal and cultural loss, and the public and private spaces we make and inhabit.
Garlands have long been used to decorate and celebrate but also to mourn loved ones, offer blessings and protection, and bring brightness to the dark days of winter. Drawing from a selection of dried plant matter and abstract cut paper shapes, create a garland that represents whatever you need in this moment—a little beauty, a gesture of remembrance, a wish for protection, or simply something to brighten your space.
Workshop instructions are designed for adults of any skill level; no prior experience required. Materials are provided and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Supplies and space are limited; please arrive early to claim a station.
Art Club is part of Free Thursday Nights—enjoy free gallery admission from 5 to 9 pm. Free admission tickets are available online in advance and on-site on the event day from the Main Lobby desk.
If you have questions about accessibility at the Walker or would like to request an accommodation, please contact Visitor Services at access@walkerart.org or 612-375-7564 at least two weeks before the event.
