Jerald “Coop” Cooper presents an evening exploring the history of Black influence on architecture, and the role of Black culture in shaping the design and popularity of mid-century modern (MCM) aesthetics.

Part of Cooper’s year-long residency at the Walker Art Center, this program—developed in partnership with the Walker’s Public Engagement, Learning, and Impact department and Taylor Jasper, Susan and Rob White Assistant Curator, Visual Art —brings his iconic platform Hood Century Modern, a culmination of years of community-based research and archival work, into a live setting. Through conversation and storytelling, Cooper invites Twin Cities audiences to experience and celebrate the cultural histories embedded in design, offering new perspectives on the region’s communities and creative legacy.

A cash bar will be available, featuring a special selection of drinks and cocktails.

Galleries are open late and free on Thursdays from 5 to 9 pm.
