Set in a Māori community in 1980s New Zealand, the film follows the titular character and his relationships with his father and brother. Mirroring guest curator Dallas Goldtooth’s own experience growing up in Indigenous communities in the 1980s, Boy builds his idea of masculinity through pop culture, fantasy, and imagination. 2010, New Zealand, DCP, English and Māori, 88 min.

This screening is part of the Once Upon a Time in Manhood cinema series, guest curated by Dallas Goldtooth.
