Part of: Summer Social 2026
Join us on the hillside for the Walker’s annual summer send-off, pairing films with newly commissioned live music. This year’s program features Bizhiki, a six-member ensemble that brings to life works from the Walker’s Ruben/Bentson Moving Image Collection and beyond, with vocals and drumming by Dylan Bizhikiins Jennings (Bad River Ojibwe) and Joe Rainey Sr. (Red Lake Ojibwe), alongside the contemporary soundscapes of multi-instrumentalist and producer S. Carey (Bon Iver) and guitarist Jeremy Ylvisaker.
The event begins at 7 pm with music from a local DJ. Film screening and live performance begin at 8:30 pm.
Sound for Silents will be held rain or shine. In the event of rain or extreme weather, the show will be moved into the McGuire Theater, with limited capacity.
Bizhiki presents a multidisciplinary discipline aiming to educate, engage, and empower audiences around contemporary Ojibwe culture and lifeways. The project makes great efforts to both support revitalization within Tribal communities and enhance understanding in non-Tribal communities.
The music of Bizhiki blends the ethereal vocals and visceral drumming of Dylan Bizhikiins Jennings (Bad River Ojibwe) and Joe Rainey Sr. (Red Lake Ojibwe) with contemporary soundscape multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer S. Carey. Connecting the songs is a lyrical narrative in which Jennings and Rainey share pieces of the Anishinaabe experience around identity, loss, and revitalization.
The performers’ diverse instrumentation—including powwow drums, percussion, drum machines, electric bass, synthesizers, guitars, piano, and vocals—evokes the lived Anishinaabe experience in a unique format. Expertly captured on Bizhiki’s expansive debut release Unbound, the collaboration invites an open-ended dialogue about resources shared generations into the future.
Audiences are welcome to connect experientially and emotionally to Ojibwe culture, all through the crisp lens of art and collaboration.
Accessible seating is available off a paved path on the hillside. Staff members will be available at the event to assist with seating.
