Theaster Gates’ Set for red, black & GREEN: a blues Open to the Public in the McGuire Theater

Part of Marc Bamuthi Joseph/The Living Word Project

Stop by the McGuire Theater for a unique opportunity to experience Theaster Gates’ stage set/art installation for Marc Bamuthi Joseph’s red, black & GREEN: a blues. The set, made of repurposed building materials and clay objects, complements the exhilarating new Walker-commissioned performance, which questions collective responsibility and is designed to jump-start conversations about environmental justice and social ecology. Gates is a visual artist and inaugural director of arts and public life at the University of Chicago.

Co-commissioned by the Walker Art Center with support provided by the William and Nadine McGuire Commissioning Fund, The McKnight Foundation, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Dance Project of the New England Foundation for the Arts, and Producers’ Council members Mike and Elizabeth Sweeney.
